I began photographing people and landscapes when I was 16 using a Yashica rangefinder
35mm camera. During my career as an agronomist, I created images for technical and promotional presentations, working with companies like Eli Lilly and Co, Western Farm Service and Crop Production Services. During this time I also continued to polish my skills as a landscape photographer.
In the late 1990’s, I began attending classes at UC Berkeley and Cabrillo College in Aptos, Ca in digital media and photoshop and continued until I moved to Placitas, NM in 2014. I have been a member of the Enchanted Lens Camera Club since 2015. In 2019 I will begin responsibilities as Exhibition chairman for the club.
I have won two awards in New Mexico Magazine, including Grand Prize in the annual photography contest in 2017. In 2019, I was named photographer of the year in the AA division of the ELCC.
I had my own show at Bay Photo in Santa Cruz in 2011 and have participated in past Shades of Gray and ANAMPAS exhibitions as well as participating in an infrared image exhibition at The Artistic Image in Albuquerque. I presently live in Placitas NM with my wife Georgia and dog Rocky.
My work can be seen on National Geographic’s Your Shot. Search Michael Edminster once you are on the website:
